Three of Cups

Upright

In the Three of Cups, three dancers stand with their cups in a rehearsal room. Their faces are solemn, and costumes hang behind them like empty bodies. The celebration has not forgotten the work, discipline, and loss that led to this moment. Pause to recognize what was completed, who helped, and what was learned. Shared joy makes an achievement visible to the community, but make sure credit, rest, and benefit also reach those who performed the invisible labor. Everything need not be perfect before raising a cup. A good celebration does not hide the truth; it lets people carry it together for a while.

Reversed

In the reversed Three of Cups, community becomes a stage where belonging must constantly be proven. Everyone may raise a cup together in public while comparison, gossip, exclusion, or exhaustion remains inside and the party merely postpones it. Distinguish ordinary social fatigue from a setting where you are humiliated or pressured. The first may need rest, a smaller group, and a clear departure time; the second calls for distance, documentation, and support outside the circle. Intoxicants can increase vulnerability and conflict, so keep control of your transportation and decisions. Not all shared laughter is connection.
