The Hermit

The Hermit's lantern does not illuminate the entire mountain. It reveals the next few steps and leaves the rest in darkness, because demanding complete certainty is sometimes a sophisticated way to refuse the journey. The Hermit leaves the crowd to hear which question remains after the borrowed answers fall silent. Withdrawal here is an investigation, not a disappearance. Read, write, walk, and let experience settle without an audience. Take one honest question into solitude, and decide when you will return to test what you find in the company of another person and daylight. Silence can separate what matters from the noise, but it does not make every thought true. Wisdom is not possessing every answer; it is knowing the limits of your knowledge. No one is meant to live inside the lantern. Its purpose is to help you walk.
Reversed
The lantern is burning, but the door no longer opens. The reversed Hermit's solitude has become a closed courtroom where the same thought serves as witness, judge, and executioner. When no other voice is allowed inside, a familiar conclusion begins to sound true merely because it echoes. You may call isolation wisdom while avoiding shame, grief, criticism, or the possibility of being needed. Privacy is a right; disappearing is not the only possible boundary. Take one conclusion to a trusted person, the facts, or professional support for examination. Return to the world in small ways and without a performance: open the curtains, answer one message, or sit for a while where other people are present. Company will not banish every ghost, but many grow smaller when someone else hears their proper name.
