The Empress

The Empress does not ask what you plan to do someday, but what you feed every day. Anything that receives your time, touch, and attention begins to grow — including things you never wanted in your garden. She rules the living and is not merely a picture of gentleness. The earth raises roses, nettles, and cemetery grass with equal devotion. That is why care requires discernment. Choose what deserves water, shelter, and room. Remember your own body as well: hunger, rest, pleasure, and aversion are messages from the realm, not inconvenient side issues. Receiving belongs to abundance as much as giving does. If something good is coming into the world through your hands, make room for it. Growth is a blessing, but it always brings more to tend.
Reversed
The Empress's garden has either dried out or grown so tangled that no one can walk through it. Both reveal care that has lost its measure. You may be giving others more than you can afford, trying to control growth by pulling shoots open, or treating your own body like a servant who apparently needs no wages. The reversed Empress asks you to examine where the nourishment is actually going. An empty pitcher pours no wine, no matter how loudly the guests pound the table. Restore rest, food, money, time, and tenderness to your own use as well. Not everything that has withered needs to be saved. Find out whether something needs water, pruning, or burial. Gentleness without boundaries easily turns into quiet resentment. Real care also keeps the caregiver alive.
