Four of Cups

Upright

In the Four of Cups, a person sits collapsed in a cold room surrounded by pipes. Four bottles stand before him: three dark or cloudy and one lit from within. The card does not blame him because the light is not immediately appealing. When energy or meaning is scarce, choosing also costs energy. Reduce demands and check sleep, food, pain, loneliness, and recovery. Then choose one small, reversible experiment instead of forcing enthusiasm. If loss of pleasure persists, functioning declines, or daily life begins to close down, speak with a healthcare professional. The glowing bottle is an option to investigate, not an obligation to drink.

Reversed

In the reversed Four of Cups, interest begins to return—or restlessness makes every bottle seem urgent. Recovery gradually improves connection to the body, judgment, and the ability to stop; impulse wants everything now and resents limits. Choose one experiment, limit time and money, and sleep at least one night before a major commitment. If rising energy includes very little need for sleep, racing thoughts, unusual risk-taking, or feeling invulnerable, contact healthcare. An opening door is good news only when you control the pace.
